YouTube Economic Research Programme
YouTube Canada · Documentary Series
This project took me across the country — Montreal to Calgary, Vancouver to Toronto — to meet the creators who are quietly reshaping Canada's economic landscape one video at a time.
The YouTube Economic Research Programme asked a deceptively simple question: what is the real financial contribution of Canadian content creators to the national economy? The answer required telling individual stories — human stories — about people building businesses, communities, and livelihoods entirely through their craft and their cameras.
As a content creator myself I did not have to work hard to understand these people. I already knew what it felt like to bet on your own voice. What surprised me was the scale of what they were building — and how little of it had been seen or celebrated before this film.
