“We small but we are Talawal.”
Jamaica, We International is a short film that traces an unexpected and largely untold connection — the profound influence of Jamaica's LGBTQ+ community on the global high fashion industry, told through the visual language of dancehall culture.
The film sits at the intersection of fashion, music, movement, and survival. It explores how a community that faces rejection and erasure on the island it calls home simultaneously shaped the aesthetics, attitude, and energy that runway designers and creative directors have borrowed from — often without acknowledgement or credit. Dancehall was always fashion. The people who built it were always there. This film makes that visible.
Shot with the cinematic intimacy of a portrait and the visual ambition of an editorial, Echoes Of Care is both a celebration and a reckoning — a film that honours the creativity of people who have had to express themselves loudly in a place that would rather they stayed silent.
